Import from S3

Pull documents directly from your own AWS S3 bucket using secure cross-account IAM role assumption. No access keys needed.

How to set up AWS access for S3 Import

Step 1: Create an IAM Role in your AWS account

Open the IAM Console in your AWS account
Go to Roles → Create role
Select "Another AWS account" as the trusted entity
Enter Kita's AWS Account ID: 159906127457
Check "Require external ID" and enter: bd8c7153-c90a-42ab-8bc8-8fe1a046661f
Click Next (skip attaching policies for now, we'll add inline)
Name the role (e.g., KitaS3ReadAccess) and create it

Step 2: Attach an S3 read policy

Open the role you just created and add this inline policy (replace YOUR-BUCKET-NAME with your actual bucket):

Step 3: Copy the Role ARN

On the role summary page, copy the ARN (looks like arn:aws:iam::123456789012:role/KitaS3ReadAccess)
Paste it into the IAM Role ARN field below
Fill in your Bucket name and optional prefix, then click Preview

Security note: Kita uses cross-account role assumption with an external ID. No long-lived credentials (access keys) are stored or transmitted. The temporary session lasts 1 hour and has only the permissions you grant to the role.

IAM Role ARN * The ARN of the IAM role in your AWS account that grants Kita read access to your S3 bucket

Bucket * Your S3 bucket name (not the full ARN)

AWS Region The AWS region where your bucket is located

Prefix (folder path) Only import files under this path (leave empty for entire bucket)

File Extensions Comma-separated list of file extensions to include
